This month HD will be hosting a crayon drive for Project Shoestring!

Project Shoestring is an organization made up of ordinary people – friends, relatives, neighbors, from a number of different countries – dedicated to the proposition that everyone can get involved in helping the less fortunate. The people of Project Shoestring believe that no action is too small, no contribution in time, money or goods too insignificant, to make this world a better and more equitable place.
So bring new boxes of crayons through the month of August and help us provide needed school supplies to children across the globe!

Project Band-Aid

Cuts and scrapes are a part of every kid's life! That's why our kids in HD are collecting character band-aids for children at the Phoenix Crisis Nursery. The Crisis Nursery is a safe haven for kids from abuse, neglect or homelessness. Over 120 children find aid and solace at the Crisis Nursery daily.

By providing children at the Crisis Nursery with character band-aids we will help heal their little hurts as we also cover them in prayer. Please bring your band-aids to any HD Ministry area April 25 – May 17th.

Kids Against Hunger Update!

We just received a wonderful letter from Kids Against Hunger! The letter thanked everyone in HD for raising money to help feed hungry children around the world!

Here's a little bit of what it said:

"Dear Friends,
We at Kids Against Hunger appreciate your recent donation...we are deeply touched and appreciative that you have chosen to support our work. Your donation will provide 1,993 meals to feed a starving child. In our eyes that makes you a hero..."

Wow! 1993 meals! Our kids are heroes!

Becoming Kids Against Hunger!

Starting November 1st-2nd, kids in HD Children's Ministry will learn about what it means to be hungry. Through our mission-focused Echo weekend we will teach kids why there is hunger, about the people who are hungry and what they as kids can do to make a difference.

Most of us eat multiple meals a day (and probably even throw away some food!) but each day, one in seven people around the world get absolutely nothing to eat. Sadly, most of the people not getting any food are children! We can change that! Here are a few ways to help!

Play Free Rice! It is fun, easy and a free way to donate rice to the UN World Food Program.

Bring in canned goods to Jungle Heights or Elevate in November. These canned goods will provide local families with food to eat. This is a boys vs. girls contest with a fun prize the first weekend in December for the winner! You don't want to miss out!

And finally, enter the 20 QUARTER CHALLENGE! We are challenging each kid and adult involved in HD to bring in 20 quarters in the month of November for Kids Against Hunger. These quarters will go towards healthy meal bags that are sent around the world to feed hungry children. If each of us brings in 20 quarters we will feed 14,000 children who need food.

92 Bed Nets!

We are excited to announce that we were able to collect enough missions offering to pay for 92 bed nets! Radiant Kids did an amazing job and raised more than nine hundred dollars for Malaria No More! This past weekend, we set up and echo booth in the lobby to let everyone know what an amazing job the kids had done! We had an awesome video loop that gave more info on Malaria No More, and we even had our Missions Offering Jugs out there for people to see what we had collected. It was awesome to see families stop by the booth and give a couple of dollars extra, and learn a little more about the missions focus that the kids have been a part of for the past five weeks!

Final Week of Malaria No More!

This coming weekend (July 5/6) will mark the final weekend of having Malaria No More as our echo mission focus and the last weekend of mission offerings dedicated to buying bed nets! We are excited to announce that up to now, we have raised enough money to buy 65 bed nets! We are so close to meeting our goal of 100 bed nets and we hope to meet that goal this weekend. We will be announcing the total number of bed nets on the weekend of July 12/13 at our Echo booth in the church Lobby. We will have our final total as well as more information on Malaria No More, so make sure to check it out!

Also, this weekend we will be handing out a prayer mission to the Radiant Kids. We know that we can make a difference by gathering money and resources, but it is just as important to invest time in prayer for our missionaries and the people of Africa. In order to do this, they will all be using the "Praying in Color" insterts in their take-aways, to pray for Africa during the week. Their mission is to then bring these inserts back to the Echo booth on the weekend of July 12/13 where they will be displayed! Click on the banner below for more information on "Praying in Color".
